Tin cans on the back of the car have been part of the long list of wedding traditions since time immemorial. But do people really know their meaning?
Well, it was believed that their rattling noise would scare away evil and troublesome spirits and therefore protect the newly formed union. Nowadays tin cans on the wedding getaway car are more of a fun way of announcing the departure of the newlyweds.
However, decorating the wedding car with tin cans is not the only way to embellish it. Nothing is more simple than a “Just married” sign on the back of the send-off car. DIY a beautiful and easy calligraphed sign, write or engrave your message on a small acrylic or wooden blackboard. Plain cardboard will do as well. Tie the sign with string to the back of the wedding car. Prettify it with flowers, ribbons and a huge bow smack in the middle of the arrangement.
Decorate the back and sides of the car with beautifully colored balloons and bunting that spell out the names of the newlyweds, “Just Married!” or “Happy Forever”. It will look incredibly cute!
Create a fab photo op by filling out the car with balloons that will escape before the bride and groom do!
One of the most original and funny ways to decorate the send-off car is to “dress it up” as the bride. How? You ask. Add eyelashes to the car’s headlights to make them look like eyes and place a “veil” on top. Of course, you can still add a decal or write “Just Married” on the car window of your choosing – if you believe having the getaway car looking like a bride is not enough! 😉

If you prefer something more delicate to decorate the wedding car, flower arrangements and floral wreaths will be a surefire hit. Tie them on top of the hood, the trunk, over the door handles, the license plate and if you dare… fill the car with flowers and surprise the happy couple when they open its doors! Be ready to ‘Gram it!
Wrap the car as if it was a gift with ribbons and bows in the wedding colors. Feel free to tie some tin cans to incorporate the wedding tradition. Or get inspired with these vintage wedding car decoration ideas for an incredible trip to the sunset.
