The easiest way to make Save the Date magnets is to print the invitation on your computer, attach it to a thick card and add magnets that already come with one-sided glue. Simple and easy!

If you would like to work with clay or wood, print a design on it (or engrave it with a wood chisel), let it dry and adhere the magnet. You can buy the magnets online or at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s.

Here’s the list of materials you’ll need

  • Software for photo editing or to create your own design.
  • Magnets: There are three types, magnetic tape rolls, self-adhesive magnets, magnetic paper for inkjet or laser printers.
  • Glue, if your magnets are not self-adhesive.
  • Printer.
  • Scissors or a blade (like the Exacto blades).
Super original DIY save the date magnets.

Let’s Get Crafty!

1First, determine what type of magnet you want to work with as this will define your design size. Magnetic sheets are the easiest to use but they are also the thinnest. Magnetic rolls without adhesive are the thickest and you can cut them to any size you want.

2Now that you have the appropriate dimensions, design your Save the Date invitation. Remember to include at least the basic information: that you are getting married, both your names and the date of the wedding. You may also indicate that the formal invitation will arrive soon, where or how to get more information about the wedding, or if you expect them to respond to a phone number or email to confirm their attendance.

3The next step you can do at home with your own printer or commission the printing of your design to a printing and copying center or to a printer. If you print them at home, make sure your printer settings are set to the quality level required for printing on photo paper.

4Time to glue the magnets! If your magnets are the same size as your save-the-date, make sure they are well aligned and glue them together. If you decided to work with magnet rolls or magnetic sheets, print the design on the sheet and then cut the magnets with the Exacto knife. Now, if the magnets are self-adhesive, just remove the protective film and stick them to the back of your Save the Dates. Otherwise, use glue.

5Let the magnets dry. Now mail them or hand them out!

How Bilingual Wedding Invitations Can Keep You Out of Trouble (And Save You Money)

Find out how bilingual wedding invitations can help you spend less on invites, avoid mistakes and wow your guests!

Silver wedding ideas.

Silver wedding ideas.

If you ever wondered what language to use when crafting the text for your wedding invitations, you must read this article. It can save you money, help you zoom through the mailing invitations process and have you looking amazing in the process!

How can Bilingual Wedding Invitations Save you Money?

First things first. Before looking cool, we want to find out how much this bilingual wedding invitations idea is going to save us. Let’s dive right into it.

Printing a single set of wedding invitations can be expensive. Needless to say, having to print two sets of invitations, one in English and one in Spanish is even more costly.

Printers always require that you order a minimum number of invitations and the higher the number of invitations requested, the lower each invitation costs. Why?

All you need to know about bilingual wedding invitations. The tumbler format.

All you need to know about bilingual wedding invitations. The tumbler format.

There is a setup cost associated with the personalization of your invitations. A print-run set with your information, font and color selection, cannot be used for anybody else. These are highly personalized items and spreading this cost over a larger quantity, makes the cost of each invite lower.

Ordering two sets of invitations, one for each language, implies incurring in two different setup costs. The cost to setup the Spanish wedding invitations and the cost to setup the English ones. Bilingual wedding invitations will avoid having two setup costs and save you money!

Doing the Math: How Much Will I Save?

Let’s assume that you need to send invitations to 90 groups of guests. By now, you know you don’t need a single invite per guest, amiright? 🙂

Say 45 of which speak English, and 45 of which speak Spanish. If you ordered separate invitations for both your Spanish-speaking guests, and English-speaking guests, you would need to order a total of 120 invitations (60 Spanish versed, and 60 English versed, because invitations are usually ordered in multiples of different values).

Let’s assume the 60-invitation set costs $202, your total spend would be $404 for both invitation sets. If you only had to order one set of 110 invites, the same wedding invitations would cost you just $347! And you would have 20 invitations left over that you can use in your wedding album or, if you forgot to add someone to your guest list. Not bad, huh?

How Else Can Bilingual Wedding Invitations Help Me?

Love bilingual wedding invitations because not only will they save you money, they will help you zoom through the mailing process and avoid (costly) mistakes.

Imagine you have two sets of invitations, you will need to make sure you don’t send the English invite to a Spanish-speaking guest (or vice versa) which is more time-consuming.

If you only have one set of bilingual wedding invitations, you will make no such mistake and you will definitely impress and wow your guests!

So, What are Bilingual Wedding Invitations?

It is a special invitation layout where the information can be printed in two different languages on the same invitation at a negligible or no additional cost.

How is this possible? Back in April 2008, Havi Goffan, CEO of Target Latino, created the perfect formats to print bilingual wedding invitations without having to print both sides of the invitation paper for the Celebración album. This revolutionized the world of invitations.

Bilingual Wedding Invitations: What Format to Pick?

The answer is simple. It all depends on the invitation layout you pick. Each bilingual invitation format works best with some or several invitation layouts. Let’s check them out.

The “Tumble” Format

When your invitation is a flat card, you can pick the “tumble” format. The information is printed in one language on one side and when you flip it over (from top to bottom) you can read the invite in the other language.

It is very original looking as neither language has precedence over the other. Invitations with minimal design and embellishments work best with this format. Avoid embossing, de-bossing and anything that requires adding texture to your wedding card.

Some printers may charge an additional fee for this format as the paper has to be run by the presses twice.

The Side-to-Side Format

Both your Spanish and English versions will be printed next to each other on your invitation. You’ll want to choose an invitation that opens to a horizontal z-fold.

You can have one language version on the middle panel of the invitation and on the right panel you can have the other language version. In this format the language on the main fold has precedence over the other but it works with all of the horizontal z-fold invitations.

The “Top and Bottom” Format

This bilingual invitation has the information printed in one language version on top of the other and the couple’s names printed just once. This format works with vertical z-fold invitations, flat cards, and gatefold invitations. Basically, every invitation imaginable!

In this format the language on the top has precedence over the one on the bottom but this invitation will allow you to stay within budget and utilize letterpress, embossing and foil printing!

Save on your wedding alcohol budget. Make-your-own martini bar for an ultra glam wedding reception.

Hosting an open bar is pretty expensive when compared to offering a few signature drinks. Let your guests mix, shake and mingle while enjoying your make-your-own Martini bar. 😉 Add a few signs with martini recipes to the tables and let them enjoy their creations during cocktail hour. We’ve added lots of recipes on this article, so take your pick.

Here are a few tips and ideas to build your own Martini bar:

  • Hiring a barman to help prepare and mix the drinks will cost you a bit more but it will also offer some added entertainment.
  • Remember to serve some nonalcoholic, or “mocktail” options, your guests will thank you.
  • Consider adding some personalized cocktail napkins bearing clever phrases like “When life hands you lemons, make Lemon Drop Martinis”, “Keep Calm and Drink a Martini”, “We like it Shaken, but not Stirred”, or a take on Sex and the City “Classy & Fabulous”.

Let’s go over what you need to build your DIY Martini bar, how much to buy and some of the most popular and trending cocktail recipes to choose from. Cheers!

What You Need for a DIY Martini Bar: The Basics

Just six simple and easy-to-find elements turn a regular bottle of vodka or gin into the make-your-own martini bar of your dreams. Your guests will love the ability to create their own drinks and you’ll love not having to throw down the cash for multiple kinds of alcohol.

  1. Vodka and Gin. You want to cater to all your guests and some swear that a true martini has to have vodka and others will not even sip a respectable martinis unless it’s made with gin.
  2. Vermouth. A must for any martini bar. You cannot create a Martini without vermouth.
  3. Cocktail shaker. Be true to the Bond style and let your guests shake their martinis if they so desire.
  4. Martini mixing glass and stirrers. Usually, Martinis are served stirred. Let your guests mix their own on mixing glasses where they will stir their cocktails to perfection.
  5. Martini Garnish. Olives, cocktail onions, olive juice, lemon slices, citrus rind, maraschino cherries, and any other additions you’d like to put in your cocktail. Citrus garnishes will be more fragrant and olives and onions will give it a more savory flavor.
  6. Ice. Most martinis are served up (in a cocktail glass without ice), but you will need ice both to keep your bottles cool (especially the vermouth) and to throw in with the other ingredients while stirring.
Cocktail hour may be quite entertaining with this martini bar service with signature drinks. Can't wait for that first icy sip!

How Much to Buy to Build your Martini Bar for a wedding Reception

In order to know how much you will need to build your martini bar make a list of all the ingredients needed for each type of Martini you will be offering. Multiply times 3 (the average number of Martini’s per person during 4 hours) and then multiply again by the number of guests. It wasn’t so hard, was it?

Popular Martinis

A Martini consists of Gin or Vodka which is shaken or stirred in a mixer with ice, and then poured in to a chilled glass which contains vermouth, and then garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. (Add a pearl onion and you have a Gibson). The more vermouth, the “wetter” the Martini and the less vermouth concocts a “dry” martini.

The most popular martinis are the Dirty Martini, Dry Manhattan, Dry Martini, Fifty-Fifty Cocktail, Gibson, Gimlet, Gin Martini, and the Manhattan. Check out these classic and popular martini recipes and pick a couple for your martini bar! Enjoy!

The Cuban-Inspired Wedding: A 2017 Tropical Trend with Lots of Sabor

Throw the perfect Cuban-inspired wedding bash with these easy tips and must haves featuring Havana cigars, Señoritas and mojitos!

Imagine your wedding. Hanging greenery, colorful flowers as centerpieces, candles in pink votives over a rustic wood table with wooden folding chairs. Parrot optional.

Imagine your wedding. Hanging greenery, colorful flowers as centerpieces, candles in pink votives over a rustic wood table with wooden folding chairs. Parrot optional.

Mix vintage deco, retro and abundantly lush greenery together and your fantastic Cuban-inspired wedding theme is almost ready.

The renewed interest in Cuban culture, with its bright and tropical colors coupled with fluid flamenco-style bridal gowns, has become a trend in this year’s weddings. Their color palette of deep purples, turquoise, tangy mandarin, bright corals, sunny yellows, playful fuchsias and greenery (Pantone’s color of the year) has all the ingredients for a fun and carefree wedding. Complete the Cuban-inspired wedding theme with Latin food and drinks and delicious rum infused cocktails.

Cuban-Inspired Wedding Decor: The Kingdom of Art Deco

Cuba is an exotic place brimming with passion. A Cuban-inspired wedding will reflect the couple’s passionate love for each other. With a fusion of Spanish, African and Caribbean cultures, Cuba offers ample inspiration for the reception’s food, music and attire.

The wedding decor will be the final touch that will complete the illusion of a Cuban adventure for guests. One only has to imagine Havana in the twenties to paint the scene at the house of an “hacendado” on a tobacco or sugar plantation. Carved wood with floral motifs, voluptuous palm trees and ferns, broad cane chairs and a wedding palette with brushstrokes of brown, turquoise, orange, ivory and of course the Pantone color of the year, greenery in the centerpieces, and on the tableware and cushions.

Have some antiques handy? Decorate the room with them. Take advantage of old Cuban cigar boxes if you have any, or use rum bottles to save on creative centerpieces with tropical flowers such as heliconias, birds of paradise or orchids. Place a cigar with a personalized label as a wedding favor on each plate. Now we are getting fancy!

Accompany the Cuban-inspired wedding decor with an exotic menu and cocktails with a defined Cuban accent. So bring out the rum. It’s time to have fun in an elegant way!

Tropical Cuban-Inspired Weddings with Cuban “Sabor”: Eat, Drink and Be Merry!

Mojitos are the perfect cocktail for Cuban-inspired weddings. Accompany them with tempting meat pies or “empanadas” and crispy tostones. Among other drinks, you can serve Cuba Libre, which is a mixture of rum, Coca-Cola and lime juice, or mojitos with non-traditional flavors such as peach, cherry or pineapple. Do not forget to add some Cuban-inspired non-alcoholic beverages such as guava, coconut, or lime flavored water.

Here is a very ingenious idea for a mojito bar. Use fresh mint to make unique ice cubes. Take a little mint, put it in each of the ice tray spaces and then fill it with water. Let the water turn into ice and there you have it. Great idea for a summer wedding.

The Blushing Cuban passionfruit raspberry cocktail is a vibrant & exotic blend of fresh passionfruit, raspberries and Cuban rum.

Cuba is famous for its meat dishes. Some of the main course choices for your party might be “Ropa Vieja”, “Masitas de Puerco” or marinated fried pork, oxtail stew or grilled ribs. For a lighter meal, you can offer “sandwich medianoche” that can be served either hot or cold, hence its name since you can eat them after a night of painting the town red. And where will you find more merriment than at a Cuban wedding? The midnight sandwich has grilled or fried pork slices with cheese pressed between toasted French bread slices with butter on both sides (and well pressed).

Add a fresh and colorful Cuban salad. You will only need tomatoes, onions and radish slices sprinkled with olive oil, vinegar and lemon juice. Or a chickpea salad with green and red peppers and sweet yellow onions with a dressing made from fresh lime juice, olive oil, and a pinch of cumin. Yummylicious!

It’s time for Desserts!

Pick some of these delicious temptations to complete your wedding menu. Flan served in individual cups and sprinkled with a little cinnamon or nutmeg, or “merenguitos” (mini meringues) made of egg whites beaten with sugar and then baked.

You also have arroz con leche topped with cinnamon and juicy raisins. Then, for some pastry or cake options, there are señoritas, pastelitos and capuchinos. Señoritas are confectionary made with layers of puff pastry filled with custard cream, served in a variety of vanilla or chocolate flavors. They are very similar to the Napoleon. Pastelitos are small pastry buns stuffed with guava, cream cheese, or shredded coconut drizzled with syrup. And the Cuban capuchinos and cabezotes are small cakes shaped like a yellow cone, soaked in a syrup made with cinnamon, orange and lemon peel, and anise. You will want to lick your fingers! (Just not at the wedding … do it in the kitchen) 😉

For the dessert table you may present sweet coconut candy, guava candy, more merenguitos or nougat.

Cuban Wedding Traditions

Let’s take a look at a couple of Cuban wedding traditions and feel free to incorporate something beyond the Cuban decor to your wedding!

Money is Always Welcome at the Onset of a New Lifetime Adventure

The money dance is another very old tradition at Cuban weddings. Guests would dance with the bride and pin money on her dress to help the couple off to a great start.

Usually, the bride’s family pays for the wedding, and both the bride and groom’s parents give an important gift to the newlyweds, like money or a house. Nice tradition, right? 😉

Cuban Wedding Favors

Another Cuban tradition is for the couple to thank their guests by giving them a small handmade gift or some personalized ribbons with their names on them. If the wedding calls for it, the favor becomes a good Cuban cigar to celebrate the union.

Proper Cuban-Inspired Wedding Attire for The Couple and Guests

Cuban wedding dresses are stunningly beautiful and white (if the bride is a virgin). If she’s not, tradition dictates her dress should be red. Fortunately this tradition is almost gone and a bride can wear a red wedding dress just because she wants to!

With so much dancing, delicious food and drinks to look forward to, dressing comfortably and elegantly is a must. Ladies may wear summer cocktail dresses, while gentlemen can wear linen guayaberas, shirts with tropical motifs and elegant fedora hats. Everything should remind you of old Havana and a tropical paradise.

Original and Best Wedding Wishes to Write on a Wedding Card

We’ve rounded up a collection of the best wedding wishes to write on your wedding card! Get inspired or copy away!

Put your gorgeous engagement portraits to good use with this easy multisided card box that lends itself well to any wedding style.

Put your gorgeous engagement portraits to good use with this easy multisided card box that lends itself well to any wedding style.

Engagement season is in full swing so it’s time to brush up on all the wedding wishes you’ll need to write inside those wedding cards soon. From casual wedding greetings to religious wedding wishes, we have your wedding cards covered.

How to Congratulate the Soon-To-Be Married Couple

It can be difficult to come up with something original to write on a wedding card that hasn’t been said a thousand times before. The old rule of thumb used to be “congratulate” the groom and offer the bride “best wishes.” Today, either one works, or you can choose a different sentiment that fits your relationship to the couple instead.

Whether you’re attending the wedding or not, it’s customary to send your well wishes to the soon-to-be married couple. If you’re attending the wedding, you can bring a card with you even if you already sent a gift in advance, or you can send a card before or after the wedding date.

Otherwise, you can mail it directly to the happy couple or hand it over in person on any occasion before the wedding.

What to Write on a Wedding Card

While there are no carved in stone rules for what needs to go on the card, there are some basic etiquette rules you can follow.

The most meaningful inscriptions are ones that were customized for the couple based on your personal relationship with them. Use or gather inspiration from these wedding wishes to ensure that your wedding card is heartfelt and treasured for years to come.

Remember that what you write in the wedding card will depend on your style, how well you know the couple and what your relationship with them is.

Formal Wedding Congratulations

For a couple you aren’t personally close with, more traditional wedding wishes are in order. There are still plenty of ways to make your formal greeting stand out. These are some great ideas for traditional wishes that are perfect for sweet and formal wedding cards.

  • “Best wishes for a lifetime of happiness.”
  • “Congratulations on your marriage.”
  • “Wishing you all the best as you begin your new lives together.”
  • May today be just the beginning of a lifetime of happiness together.

Best Casual Wishes to Write on a Wedding Card

Wedding card messages for family, friends, and close work associates are often more casual and allow you to express your feelings more freely.

You may have spent years of your life with this couple, and you’re as happy for them as they are with each other. This wedding card will mean a lot to them, so it is important to properly convey your emotions. Here are a few ways to show them how truly happy you are for them as they start a new chapter in their lives.

  • “So happy for you two!”
  • “Cheers to a fantastic couple!”
  • “All our best as you begin your marriage!”
  • You are two amazing people. Or, maybe I should say, one amazing couple. Congrats!
  • We’re so happy for you! May your lives be enriched by each other.
  • Congratulations! And thank you for letting us be part of your special day.
  • May you celebrate every day together the way you have celebrated today.

How to Write Funny Wedding Wishes

Weddings aren’t all serious business. Funny wedding messages are appropriate as long as they’re in good taste and you know the couple’s sense of humor! A funny wedding greeting could even make your card stand out.

Funny wedding wishes are a great way to add your own personal style to the wedding card. Keep things light with these witty phrases perfect for a laid-back couple!

  • “Finally!”
  • “Congratulations and remember Happy Wife, Happy Life!”
  • There’s no backing out now! (I have a getaway car outside if you change your mind.)”
  • Here’s to limiting your options: ’til death do us part.’
  • Did you know sequoia trees live 1,300 years? If your marriage ever gets old, just be glad you’re not sequoias.

What to Write on a Wedding Card to a Close Family Member

When writing a wedding card for a close family member, go personal! Unless your relationship is tense, in which case you may want to go with a more general message. If you are the best of friends, let those feelings show. Mention some joyful memory from the past, something you admire in them, or quote one of their sayings! But above it all, don’t forget their better half!

  • From a parent – “This is a day we’ve been thinking of since you were just a little girl/boy. We’re thrilled you have a wonderful person like _______ to spend the rest of your life with.”
  • To a brother- or sister-in-law – “You’re the brother/sister I never had. Welcome to the family! We love you!”
  • The only thing that could make us more excited now is grandchildren!

How to Write the Best Wedding Wishes for a Friend

Wedding card greetings for a friend are more personal tone. Still, it’s best not to go overboard. Express your feelings, share a memory or go with a casual wedding wish but keep it classy! This is a keepsake!

  • “We’ve been friends our whole lives, and I’ve never been happier for you. Congratulations to you both!”
  • “I’ve watched my dear friend fall in love with a wonderful (man or woman), and I’m honored to stand with you today as you become husband and wife.”
  • We hope your wedding bliss fills you with as much happiness as it has for us. We love you both very much and congratulations.

When to Write a Religious Wedding Card

Not all couples are religious, but if you know religion is very important to the bride and groom, you may want to write a religious wedding card. Especially if you are religious too as it will sound more sincere and heart-felt.

  • “May God bless your marriage and your lives together.”
  • “Mazel Tov!”
  • Blessed is the one who created human beings. Bless the two of you. May you know it all–joy and struggle, beauty and sorrow, sweat, tears, solitude, companionship, laughter and ecstasy. May your marriage be strong enough to support you to experience whatever you must as you come to know yourselves and each other and to discover the entire range of your humanity in the process of soul making. (the Sheva Brachot)
  • You two are truly blessed. May the blessings continue for both of you. Congratulations on your wedding!
  • The strongest marriages are built on the strong foundation of our Lord.
  • We are praying that God guides you in your new adventure. May God pour out blessings on you both.

The “forest” feel does not need to be over-the-top. Your tablescape could contain a few strategically-placed touches to incorporate the magic of the forest. If you are hosting an outdoor wedding, the centerpieces will probably do. If your wedding is indoors, you could add some jewels, stones or geodes to each table setting and use greenery for the centerpieces and decorations. Adding a few touches of color like cream or light hues of pink and orange will give it subtle, yet romantic feel.

Unique Woodland Wedding Decoration Inspiration

To add a bit of whimsy to your woodland wedding is to take inspiration from nature. Butterflies, ferns, gold or bronzed votives for soft candle light, branches and berries, woodcuts, books covered with moss, egg’s nests, lit up terrariums are all elements you can play with to create your own unique enchanted forest wedding.

If your reception is held outdoors, let your surroundings be the focal point of your wedding. Leverage the right lighting and a few accents and voilá! You could also bring more furniture outdoors to leverage that magical feel. This is the perfect time to incorporate a plush vintage sofa to your enchanted garden! Create a space where your guests can comfortably sit down and enjoy the conversation, the party and its ambiance.

Hang decor from a big old tree or illuminate it with fairy lights, your photographer will love you for the photo ops you would be creating!

If you are leaning towards an indoor enchanted forest wedding reception, incorporate the outdoors wherever you can. The green and earthy decorations will help but consider the permanent features of the space as well. Leverage the venue’s large windows or glass ceilings, if there are any available. Finding a venue that offers both indoor and outdoor spaces would be a win-win.

For an indoors woodland-themed reception, there are a number of ideas you can use to bring the outdoors in. Think soft lighting, abundant greenery – mostly ferns – hanging centerpieces, stones, garlands and jewel tones. But don’t be afraid to add a few touches of stronger color and not-so-earthy tones. They will look magnificent against the lush surroundings.

For soft lighting, you can use candles around your centerpieces and altar. Add the candles to a terrarium shaped holder or mason jar for added luminescence. If your venue won’t allow open flames, use battery lit candles or Chinese lanterns. Chinese lanterns can be wrapped around branches or wooden beams to enhance the forest-like feel.

The half-naked wedding cake look pairs perfectly with an enchanted forest themed wedding. You can add subtle floral embellishments to the tiers or a little bit of greenery to make the cake really stand out. If you would like to add the woodland wedding theme to the cake, you can opt for a geode wedding cake. Swoon! And double swoon!

A little bit goes a long way with this theme. As an added bonus, keeping floral arrangements as green as possible will be more cost efficient than florals. Placing the cake on a wooden or moss-covered stand will continue the enchanted woodland theme.

Simplicity at the bride and groom’s table with chairs that complement the wedding table decor to perfection.

If you’re the type that’s been dreaming of your wedding your whole life, you might know exactly what you want your wedding reception tables to look like. If you don’t, then you are in the right place. Use this checklist to choose what to put on wedding reception tables and get inspired by some stunning wedding table ideas that will sweep you off your feet!

How to Decorate Wedding Reception Tables

When styling a wedding reception table, there are a myriad of options to choose from to achieve your desired look. Here’s a short checklist to keep in mind when decorating your wedding tables.

1. The tables themselves: tables come in all shapes and sizes, but wedding tables are somewhat standardized. 😉 From round to square, your tables may be so stunningly beautiful that you may want to show them off. A good example would be rustic heavy wooden tables, too gorgeous to hide under a tablecloth.

2. Table linens: From simple white to luxurious heavy silk brocade or modern sequined tablecloths, table linens help set your table style. Spend some time considering the colors of your napkins, linens, skirting and table runners and their impact on your reception decor.

3. Place settings: This refers to setting the table with tableware which includes utensils, glasses, dishes, etc. Each individual set is called a place setting. You may choose to go with a formal or an informal setting for your sit-down dinner. Or no setting at all if you are going for a cocktail wedding reception! 😉

Tip: Remember to match your utensils to your wedding menu items or courses.

4. Centerpieces: Tall, hanging, short or even as table runners with wreaths of greenery, make sure the wedding centerpieces match your wedding theme and do not block your guests’ view of the rest of the people at the table. You can go with lanterns, bird cages, floating candles, votives, floral wedding centerpieces or a mix of these. There is so much variety to choose from! (Check out this affordable wedding centerpieces article for more inspiration and fabulous and simple DIYs!)

5. Place cards and table numbers: Your escort cards, place cards and/or table numbers can be subtle or used to make a statement besides helping you with your seating arrangements. You can do away with them if you choose to have your guests sit wherever they like. These adorable and creative pieces, really do come in handy at a sit-down dinner as it makes it easier for your waiters to deliver specially ordered menus – like those gluten-free, kosher or vegetarian options – to your guests when you know where they are sitting.

6. Other additions to help you decorate wedding reception tables: Add a few surprises to your wedding table decor such as wedding favors and conversation ice-breakers. A few crayons or papers for them to add a well wish for the newlyweds can be a great conversation starter. You may also want to add wedding menus with a small lavender sprig or vine leaf on top of the plates.

7. Chairs: Usually a forgotten item even though they can really help spruce up the place. 😉 Look for comfort, style, and quality. The last thing you want at your wedding reception is a guest that gets hurt because the chair was too flimsy. Chair covers, original sashes, affordable baby’s breath and greenery decor can help you add that stunning personal touch to your wedding chairs. Feel free to browse some chair decor and other original wedding ideas on this article!

8. Table lighting: Nothing transforms your reception table ambiance more than the right lighting. Get inspired by twinkling lights, LEDs, chandeliers, candles and more to create an unforgettable dining space.

Wedding Table Ideas on a Budget

If you want to save money on your reception tables decor, there are plenty of affordable and amazing wedding table ideas to pick from. Here are a few of them.

  • Long live DIY! If you, or someone you know, is crafty, make the centerpieces and other wedding table decor yourself. Fill glasses or vases with strings of lights or votive candles, purchase your own fabric for your tablecloths or table runners or create your own flower arrangements.
  • If you are hosting a buffet-styled reception, use chic plastic plates and plastic “silverware” that look like the real thing instead of renting expensive china. This will help cut down on the cleaning costs as well. 😉

  • Glassware can also double as party favors. Use customized or personalized wine, pint or mason jar glasses for each place setting that your guests can take home at the end of the wedding reception. You can have them engraved with your names, initials and the wedding date or you can tie on a small tag with a note and a ribbon.
  • Grab old pieces of reclaimed wood, vintage jars and vases, or thrift store candles and trinkets to create unique and stunning wedding centerpieces. Tie the look together with inexpensive ribbons, or not. 😉

Spectacular halo engagement rings… not just beautiful… they look larger at a lower cost by Reverie.

Who invented the engagement ring, anyways?  It is believed that the tradition started in ancient Rome where wives wore rings attached to small keys, indicating they had a husband. Many centuries later, the Archduke Maximillian of Austria gave the first diamond engagement ring to his fiancée, Mary of Burgundy. Back in 1930, an ad campaign by De Beers, made the diamond engagement ring a wedding tradition. Nowadays, three-quarters of American brides wear a diamond engagement ring, which now costs an average of $4,000. But fear not! On this engagement ring guide we will share some tips to help you stay within budget and still knock her socks off!

How To Pick An Engagement Ring That Fits Her Style

What type of engagement ring suits her best? This doesn’t need to be a guessing game and even though there are no surefire rules for this, the following guidelines will help you pick a ring she will say yes to!

Consider this advice from our wedding engagement ring guide to find the ring that fits her style. If she’s classy go for a solitaire. If she’s refined start looking for a Pavé, A modern bride will be enticed by the Channel set while the bold bride will fall for a side-stone. if your girl is traditional, a three-stone will be a great match. If she’s artsy go for a Tension ring. For the extroverted one, a Halo (swoon!), and a Vintage engagement ring for the romantic one,

Now, let’s tackle the 3 not-so-simple steps (as you will discover on this engagement ring guide) to create your engagement ring: Choose your diamond, choose your setting & complete your ring!

Engagement Ring Guide: The Anatomy Of An Engagement Ring

We’ve got something special in store for you today! There seem to be a billion different kinds of engagement rings – all with different qualities, different advantages and, yes, different price tags. Trying to shuffle through them is quite confusing – but it doesn’t have to be.

Handcrafted in California over a period of up to 20 hours, each Danhov engagement ring marries precision with art. Greenwich St. Jewelers.

Handcrafted in California over a period of up to 20 hours, each Danhov engagement ring marries precision with art. Greenwich St. Jewelers.

We put together this engagement ring guide, so you’ll end up with the diamond ring of your dreams! Besides, the more you learn, the harder it will be for anyone to swindle you when purchasing your diamond engagement ring online or offline. Are you ready? Great!

Let’s start with the anatomy of the engagement ring, that is, all of its pieces. Each piece can be customized to your liking. Are we getting the idea? 😉

The ring has two main parts and the jewelers will probably refer to them quite often. These are the center stone and the setting. The center stone or simply the stone goes on top and is mounted on the setting, which is the rest of the ring and includes the filigree accents, side stones, engagement ring engraving, or other work along the band, such as a stunning pave setting.

Discover all you need to know about engagement rings on this engagement ring guide!

We can also divide the ring into two other pieces. The head, which is the most obvious part because it encompasses the jewel or stone, the side stones and the prongs where the main stone is encased. And the second part, that is the shank or the band itself.

Each one of these parts and its components can be customized and the shank can even be filigreed and engraved (which is done inside the shank usually) to achieve a most unique look. Whether it’s choosing the setting of the center stone (6 prongs? 4? Bar set?) or the style of the shank itself (Traditional? Euro-style? Criss-cross?). You can also choose various other features to embellish the ring, by maybe adding a surprise diamond on the band itself, or adorning it with patterns engravings or rope.

The Engagement Ring Guide To Diamond or Center Stone Shapes

Sometimes the shape and the cut of the stone is just as important as the type of gem itself. And even though the traditional engagement ring carries a diamond, mossianite, sapphires, and other precious gemstones are really in fashion.

The gemstone cuts vary from brilliant cut, emerald cut, round cut, square cut, triangle cut, rose cut, baguette cut, trilliant or trillion cut, marquise cut, heart cut, gemstone cut cabochon, octagon cut, cushion cut, oval cut, princess cut, radiant cut and briolette cut. Let’s take a look at a few of these to discover the difference.

Round cut also known as “brilliant cut” because its shape maximizes the amount of light return from the top of the gemstone. The better quality diamonds will look even better on top of elevated prongs as they will showcase even more light. If the diamond has imperfections or inclusions, you’ll be better off with a metal setting to cover them up.

The Princess cut is the second most popular shape. For those who prefer square to round shapes and designed for maximum brilliance. Make sure the setting protects the pointed corners.

The Radiant cut is a square or rectangular cut with cropped, round corners combines the elegance of the emerald shape gem with the brilliance of the round, and its 70 facets maximize the effect of its color refraction. It creates a non-traditional yet still brilliant gemstone.

Cushion cut, also known as “pillow-cut”, is an antique style of cut that looks like a cross between an Old Mine Cut (a deep cut with large facets) and a modern oval cut very romantic looking.

The Heart cut is the most romantic of all the shapes and it’s best set on a Bezel or 3-prong setting.

The oval cut is an even, perfectly symmetrical elongated shape design popular among women with small hands or short fingers. Its gives a flattering illusion of length to the hand.

The emerald cut, named as such because it originally was only used on emerald stones, is known for its sleek, elegant and sophisticated long and precise lines. You can use it surrounded by accompanying stones as Halo, or as a baguette with two emerald shaped side stones or as a magnificent solitaire.

A classic shape for diamond engagement rings is the Marquise cut. With a long, narrow surface that resembles a boat it gives the illusion of a greater size.

The Asscher shape must be reserved for absolutely perfect stones (especially diamonds that must be flawless) as any imperfection of inclusion will be obvious to the naked eye. This shape is perfect for vintage-style brides that love square-cut gemstones. Recommendation: Go either Halo or solitaire with the Asscher shape.

Trillion cut is a spectacular slice of brittle fire. The exact design can vary depending on a particular gem’s natural characteristics and the cutter’s personal preferences. It may be a traditional triangular shape with pointed corners or a more rounded triangular shape with a polished girdle. It is definitely for the adventurous.

The Engagement Ring Guide To The Shank Or Band

As if this weren’t enough choices to personalize your engagement ring, it’s time to pick what the band around her finger will look like. We will go over the shank, the side gemstones, the accent stones and the embellishments!

A unique diamond sits atop in breathtaking detail. This art deco bridal ring set also includes a diamond encrusted wedding band that fits within the design for a seamless look when worn.

We have a few choices for the shank. The ring itself can be fully round or traditional, with more weight on the base or euro-style, or elevated on top or cathedral style. When looking at the ring from above, we can have a straight, tapered (wider as it gets closer to the stone) or reverse tapered shank. Finally, the shank can also be split (looking at it from the top, the band splits in two parallel lines), bypass (it looks like it’s hugging the center stone), tension (love this one because the stone looks like it’s floating between the two ends of the band), or criss-cross.

I love side gemstones! They provide an economical way to add more gemstone surface area across the finger than putting the same dollars into the center stone. Nice trick, huh? The color of the side stones should be within one color grade of the center stone. This also allows for saving a few bucks as lower color grades are always cheaper than clearer diamonds. The following gemstone shapes are used primarily as matched side gems for rings. Step cut straight baguettes, tapered baguettes, straight baguettes step cut, trapezoids, half moons, step cut bullets, kite shapes and tapered bullets.

One more addition to the shank that makes it look even more stunning are the accent stones. They are set alongside the band in different ways. Some are packed tighter together like the pavé, channel, surface and shared prong and some are set a bit further apart or separated by metal like the bezel, the bar and the gypsy flush.

Ooops! We are not done yet! This engagement ring guide would not be complete if we failed to mention the embellishments. If you want to add more uniqueness and fancy to the ring think about engraving it, or adding a filigree, piercing it or even a surprise diamond – that is a smaller stone on the side of the shank.

Engagement Ring Guide: Let’s Look At Colors

Now that you have an idea of all the shapes and sizes, it’s time to decide what color you want your diamond to be. Options range from colorless, nearly colorless, faint color, to very light yellow, light yellow, and fancy yellow.

Engagement Ring Guide: Clarity

More important than the carat, the clarity speaks about a diamond’s quality. The less inclusions or impurities, the more flawless the stone. Imperfections are natural in diamonds but they will reduce their bling level.

How to Save Beaucoup of Bucks on the Engagement Ring

The last part of this engagement ring guide is dedicated to provide you a few tips to save on your engagement ring purchase.

  • Buy your ring during the summer months. Most people buy their engagement rings in fall, winter and even during the spring. But as most people are busy getting married during the summer months, engagement ring sales drop and you can find yourself some pretty sweet deals. Basically, we can add this as another advantage to getting married in the winter or to longer engagements if you are still set on getting married in the summer!
  • What’s trending on engagement rings that makes them cheaper and more original? Sapphires, of course! Feel free to surround it with accent diamonds like on the Halo ring and go for an even more unique gemstone.

  • Avoid round numbers in carats and save a lot of money. Most people will not notice if it’s a 1.95 carat or a 2.00 carat ring.
  • Another tip to save on your engagement ring. Adding side stones. It will make the ring look larger at a much lower price. Check out the paragraph where we talk about side stones and their options.
  • Play with clarity and color. There are some settings where clarity is paramount but other settings allow for a slightly included diamond. It will cost less than one with top-notch clarity—but the difference is hardly visible to the eye. The same goes for color, as it is very difficult to tell between a G or an F color and the G will cost you much less.
  • How about the metal the ring is made from? If you don’t mind going for a 14K gold ring, you will save money versus an 18K gold ring. Rose gold is gorgeous and an alloy of gold and copper, making rose gold more affordable. This is a bonus for your wallet if you happen to be on a budget.
  • People think that a custom ring will cost them way more, but there are some great deals out there. Why go with a major brand name and a mass-produced ring? Make your ring a one of a kind just like your love.
