How to Make a Wedding Backdrop: Yay for Crepe Paper!
This lit and colorful crepe paper wedding backdrop DIY is simpler than you think. Unless you want to go with the colors on the photo, you’ll have the additional task of choosing four colors.
Crepe paper sheets are usually 7.5ft long which should give you a height of 30 ft. If your wedding venue has much taller ceilings, you may want to add one more color section. As long as they touch the floor, they will keep their shape.
Materials for 6 wide streamers:
- 8 Crepe Paper Sheets 20” x 7.5 ft. two per color: pink, yellow, sky blue and blue.
- Scissors
- Clear glue
Step 1: Cut off two sections of crepe paper for each sheet (about 6″-7″ wide)
Step 2: Leave folded as they are, and starting on one side cut fringes evenly spaced. Don’t worry if they are not perfect but leave some space uncut in the center.
Step 3: Flip and do the same on the other side.
Step 4: Repeat steps 1 to 3 for each one of the crepe paper sheet colors.
Step 5: Glue each section to another of a different color (in the same order) to create several very long multicolored fringed streamers.
Step 6: Unroll and separate the layers and let them open with their weight. Pull with your fingers lightly, if needed.
Step 7: Hang your streamers, twist them and party on!
You can hang them from a wooden stick, twisted rope or dowel rod or glue them straight to the ceiling with glue dots. The more secure, the better.
Balloon Streamer Backdrop Tutorial
To complement this simple and decorative balloon streamer wedding backdrop you should choose streamers or ribbons in matching tones. These streamers can be made out of fabric cutouts or traditional ribbons or paper streamers, ideally in neutral colors. If you want to make a more glam wedding backdrop you may add some silver or gold streamers.
Materials
- Balloons
- Streamers and/or ribbons
- Rope or plastic rod
- Thread
Step 1: Place a stretched out rope or rod to serve as the base.
Step 2: Inflate the balloons. No helium needed.
Step 3: Attach the paper streamers and ribbons to the balloon with the thread.
Step 4: Finally tie the balloons together with their “tassels” to the rope. Try not to leave too much of an open space between them. Simple, colorful and decorative.
How to Make a Ribbon Backdrop in Minutes
This drop-dead gorgeous ribbon backdrop can be tackled in a very short time. To help you with the number of ribbon spools you will need, first pick your ribbon width and backdrop height (or needed ribbon length plus a couple of inches). That way, if the ribbon height is 15ft. and each spool is 2” wide x 10 yards long, you will need 36 spools per each 6’ backdrop section. Let’s start gathering the materials we’ll need.
Materials:
- Nylon rope
- Spools of decorative ribbon
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape
- Hot Glue Gun
- Optional: String lights
Make sure the ribbons do touch the floor, otherwise you won’t get the desired effect (and won’t be happy with it). Feel free to incorporate some metallic ribbons for effect.
Step 1: Cut the nylon rope to the desired length. The one on the photo is 25 ft. long.
Step 2: Unroll the ribbons and cut them to the desired length.
Step 3: To attach the ribbon to the rope, fold the end of each ribbon around the rope and secure with the hot glue gun.
Step 4: Continue attaching ribbons mixing the colors with no space left between strand and strand.
Step 5: Hang your masterpiece.
Step 6: The final touch. Complement this simple and youthful ribbon backdrop with some hanging string lights. Voila!
