This is the easiest and most affordable DIY ever. All you will need is some burlap, a piece of string and gypsophilas or baby’s breath. Gypsophilas are white, so have some ink or dye handy to turn them the color you want. Get the flowers ready by dipping them in a vase with dyed water until you see the baby’s breath has changed color. Of course, you can go all white and skip this step if you are in a rush. Now let them dry and wrap them in burlap to make a rustic and adorable bouquet tied with a string.

Valentine’s Day Dessert for Two

9Impress (and surprise) your better half with a dessert made by you that looks like it’s straight off the bakery! Get some store-bought puff pastry and shape four small round individual tarts. Bake them at 425°F until you see them puff up and just start to brown, approximately 10 minutes. Once they’ve cooled off, add a layer of whipped cream and another of raspberries. Top it with more puff pastry and sprinkle it with confectioner’s sugar. Voilá!

If you feel inspired and none of the save-the-date magnets you’ve seen reflects your personality, why not make your own? You can save a few bucks and that comes in handy.

So, the options are to buy them or make them yourself. Check out this step-by-step guide to make Save the Date magnets. Don’t let anyone forget about your special date!

The easiest way to make Save the Date magnets is to print the invitation on your computer, attach it to a thick card and add magnets that already come with one-sided glue. Simple and easy!

If you would like to work with clay or wood, print a design on it (or engrave it with a wood chisel), let it dry and adhere the magnet. You can buy the magnets online or at Hobby Lobby or Michael’s.

Here’s the list of materials you’ll need

  • Software for photo editing or to create your own design.
  • Magnets: There are three types, magnetic tape rolls, self-adhesive magnets, magnetic paper for inkjet or laser printers.
  • Glue, if your magnets are not self-adhesive.
  • Printer.
  • Scissors or a blade (like the Exacto blades).

Let’s Get Crafty!

1First, determine what type of magnet you want to work with as this will define your design size. Magnetic sheets are the easiest to use but they are also the thinnest. Magnetic rolls without adhesive are the thickest and you can cut them to any size you want.

2Now that you have the appropriate dimensions, design your Save the Date invitation. Remember to include at least the basic information: that you are getting married, both your names and the date of the wedding. You may also indicate that the formal invitation will arrive soon, where or how to get more information about the wedding, or if you expect them to respond to a phone number or email to confirm their attendance.

3The next step you can do at home with your own printer or commission the printing of your design to a printing and copying center or to a printer. If you print them at home, make sure your printer settings are set to the quality level required for printing on photo paper.

4Time to glue the magnets! If your magnets are the same size as your save-the-date, make sure they are well aligned and glue them together. If you decided to work with magnet rolls or magnetic sheets, print the design on the sheet and then cut the magnets with the Exacto knife. Now, if the magnets are self-adhesive, just remove the protective film and stick them to the back of your Save the Dates. Otherwise, use glue.

5Let the magnets dry. Now mail them or hand them out!

Let’s assume that you need to send invitations to 90 groups of guests. By now, you know you don’t need a single invite per guest, amiright? 🙂

Say 45 of which speak English, and 45 of which speak Spanish. If you ordered separate invitations for both your Spanish-speaking guests, and English-speaking guests, you would need to order a total of 120 invitations (60 Spanish versed, and 60 English versed, because invitations are usually ordered in multiples of different values).

Let’s assume the 60-invitation set costs $202, your total spend would be $404 for both invitation sets. If you only had to order one set of 110 invites, the same wedding invitations would cost you just $347! And you would have 20 invitations left over that you can use in your wedding album or, if you forgot to add someone to your guest list. Not bad, huh?

The “Tumble” Format

When your invitation is a flat card, you can pick the “tumble” format. The information is printed in one language on one side and when you flip it over (from top to bottom) you can read the invite in the other language.

It is very original looking as neither language has precedence over the other. Invitations with minimal design and embellishments work best with this format. Avoid embossing, de-bossing and anything that requires adding texture to your wedding card.

Some printers may charge an additional fee for this format as the paper has to be run by the presses twice.

The Side-to-Side Format

Both your Spanish and English versions will be printed next to each other on your invitation. You’ll want to choose an invitation that opens to a horizontal z-fold.

You can have one language version on the middle panel of the invitation and on the right panel you can have the other language version. In this format the language on the main fold has precedence over the other but it works with all of the horizontal z-fold invitations.
