Choosing a wedding bouquet is not just about picking your favorite flowers. It’s about matching it to your wedding dress, your style and even about complementing your figure!

So, if you are in the process of picking a wedding bouquet, read on. These tips will make choosing your perfect bridal flowers so much easier.

How To Pick The Perfect Bridal Bouquet For Your Figure

First, let’s cover how to choose a wedding bouquet that complements your height and body type. This is the first thing you need to pay attention to. Yes, even more than color, flower type or bouquet style.

A petite bride will look much better with a small and round flower bouquet like a posy o nosegay that a presentation bouquet. The flowers should not cover or overpower the bride. Now, if you are petite and still dying to carry a cascade bridal bouquet, go for a smaller version of it, the teardrop bouquet. You can opt for short-stemmed flowers or cutting the stems shorter for the petite bridal floral design.

On the other hand, a tall bride can go for a more voluminous or longer bouquet that will still show off her figure without minimizing its own importance.

Full figured brides, just like their taller counterpart, can flaunt sizable flower arrangements while leaner brides should go for a narrower and lengthier bouquet. Play with the length of the stems and ribbons if you prefer a more manageable bunch of flowers. But always keep in mind that you shouldn’t be hiding behind a flower jungle.

Choosing A Wedding Bouquet That Matches Your Dress

Now that you know what type of bridal floral design will make you look your best, let’s move onto the dress. Choosing a wedding bouquet that matches and highlights the dress is of utmost importance.

There are two characteristics of your dress that will dictate which floral bouquet is best.

Related: French Wedding Ideas, Trending and Fabulously Chic

First, the wedding dress style. An elaborate dress will call for a more simple and subdued wedding bouquet. On the other hand, a simple dress can be complemented with a traditional bridal bouquet or with a single flower to emphasize the bride’s minimalistic style.

Second, the shape of the skirt can help. For puffed up skirts like ballgown or princess-cut dresses, elongated bouquets will look best. If your skirt is straight, choose a bouquet that is more rounded in shape.

How To Choose A Wedding Bouquet That Fits Your Style

Your bridal bouquet is, after all, an accessory. And as such, it must match your style. Which one will it be? An overflowing, colorful crescent arrangement bursting with flowers? Or a simple and traditional white flower long stemmed posy bouquet?

  • If bling is more your thing, a bridal bouquet with brooches, “jewel style” is very becoming. These beautiful arrangements made with pins, pearls and even rhinestones, do not need refrigeration or to be delivered the day of. But of course, watch out! Do not toss it!
  • For the boho or ecologically-minded bride, a gorgeous and budget-friendly wild flower bouquet is on fleek. Another option is a single flower that is considerable in size, like a sunflower or a King Protea.
  • A lavender bouquet is ideal for bohemian chic brides. And for those who are planning on wearing a simple boho dress, consider a bouquet with strong and contrasting colors to highlight your look on the way to your “I do”.
  • Vintage or urban brides can sport a glorious composite-bouquet with pastel toned roses and peonies or a romantic ballerina bouquet.
  • If you are looking for an naive and ethereal feel that won’t break the bank, a baby’s breath arrangement will hit the spot and will be light and easy to carry. A bouquet of red roses is perfect for the passionate romantic bride.

Why Do Brides Carry Flowers At Weddings?

Each country has different bridal bouquet traditions. Some say that it has to be a gift given to the bride by the groom, others that the bride must toss the bouquet amongst single women so whoever catches it will be the next one to get married. The new trend is to take it home as a memento of their wedding day. Enough tossing!

But the true origin of the wedding bouquet dates back to centuries ago when the bride carried twigs and some herbs to scare off evil spirits. Basically, the evil eye. So if you believe in this tradition, add a few sage leaves to your bridal bouquet!

  • First, if your bridal bouquet is made out of fresh flowers, you have to have a reliable supplier who will deliver it the day of. Your bridal arrangement has to look fresh and beautiful.
  • Also, take into account the weight of the bouquet. If you are not used to carrying a lot of weight or you are fidgety, choose a lighter and easy to carry wedding bouquet.
  • You may not be allergic to your flowers but make sure that your boyfriend isn’t either. Nothing worse than teary wedding photos and a miserable time because of a bridal bouquet.

How to Plan the Best Bridal Shower Party Ever: Etiquette, Ideas & Tips

Looking for guidance and ideas to plan the best bridal shower party ever? At least, one that your friends will want to attend? Then check out these innovative ideas for bridal shower planning!

Delicious and original ideas to plan the best bridal shower party ever!

Delicious and original ideas to plan the best bridal shower party ever!

I know, I know, all of us have attended a bridal shower party that left us yawning and wanting to flee. All the cutsey gifts and games can be downright boring. But these gatherings are supposed to be fun. A chance for family and friends to mingle, enjoy and gift the bride-to-be.

And if you’re the hostess tasked with organizing one, here’s how to plan the best bridal shower party ever!

Wedding Shower Planning Ideas & Etiquette

Let’s go through all the good stuff you need to know if you never planned a bridal shower before.

The first question always is: who organizes the bridal shower? Generally the maid of honor with the help of the bridesmaids are in charge of planning the wedding shower.

If there is no appointed maid of honor or bridesmaids, the future bride’s friends could organize a small gathering or outing. Nowadays, anyone can be involved in the planning, except the couple.

Now that the host or hostess has been established, these are a few rules of etiquette to follow and these are: there are no rules to follow! (not anymore!)

Who Pays for this Shindig?

With one exception. Whoever is planning the event will cover its cost. But don’t despair! You can always split the cost amongst the rest of the bridal party. Or cut your costs with the bridal shower party ideas we’ll share. Or save by hosting it at somebody’s home. Remember to help clean up afterwards!

And Who Gets an Invite?

I guess there’s another exception. Try not to invite anybody who’s not invited to the wedding (unless the couple is eloping or hosting a pop-up wedding). There’s nothing more hurtful than finding out you weren’t invited and still have to buy a wedding shower gift.

Traditionally a women-only affair, you can go against the norm and plan a Jack and Jill shower – not a reference to a shower stall. 😉 You can invite the groom’s circle of friends and relatives to get in on the fun too.

How to Plan the Best Bridal Shower Party

Some of us love party planning and some, not so much. So, first rule of fun bridal shower party planning: engage and enlist everybody that volunteers! Start by coming up with a shared vision – there’s nothing wrong with a good brainstorming – and ask who wants to be in charge of what. You’ll be amazed at what people are able to do and how much they want to help out.

If you want to plan the best bridal shower party, don’t leave everything to the last minute. Check with the bride things like date, guest list and list of unapproved items and/or themes. Unless, the bride says otherwise, try to leave the raunchy stuff for the bachelorette party.

We’ve got you covered! Check out these ideas for a fun bachelorette party!

Announce the Bridal Shower Party Date

Next, it’s time to let everybody know when and where. No need to break the bank: email, whatsapp and text are there for a reason. For all of those guests who do not dabble in digital communications, unless there’s too many of them, a phone call will do. If you really want to have printed invitations, indulge! Remember to let people know this is a surprise and if they are supposed to bring a gift that matches a theme. Some examples of themes are honeymoon basics, lingerie party, you get the idea.

Either through emails or snail mail, send them at the very least four to six weeks before the bridal shower party date.

Remember to ask for an RSVP and track your guest list.

There’s More to the Planning

Schedule a couple of calls or get together with the rest of the organizers to make sure the bridal shower planning is on track. The day before, run the final check and address any last minute details. Now, let’s move onto the bridal shower party ideas!

Classic wedding shower games are a party starter when all else fails. Have a few in your back pocket. Try bridal bingo, Jeopardy, Jenga. Infuse the truth or dares, bridal trivia, ring toss, coed mind reading, or karaoke to fire up the action.

Food can be as simple as a family-style pasta lunch or dinner or some delish desserts. A morning shower party can be sweetened with granola, pastries, and Bloody Mary’s in addition to punch and coffee. Light refreshments like sweet rolls, crudités and a cheese plate work well during the mid-afternoon. For an evening shower, consider a dessert or a doughnut bar.

After much bridal shower partying, the highlight of the event is the gift opening. Presents should be unwrapped towards the end of the party. Make a list of who gave what to the bride, so she can write thank-you notes later.

How to Pick Bridal Jewelry that Matches your Wedding Dress Style

Everybody wants to look ‘perfect and flawless’ on their special day. Therefore, it is crucial to wear wedding jewelry that matches your wedding dress style. The following guidelines will help you find the type of jewelry that goes best with your dress style.

  • Sheath, trumpet or mermaid gown wedding dresses perfectly match sparkling Swarovski crystal jewelry for a sexy, elegant and glamorous look.
  • A-line shape dresses are flattering to most body types and give brides a subtle and elegant feel. Complete this classic look with soft and delicate pearl bridal jewelry or vintage jewelry sets.
  • A ball gown dress bestows an aristocratic and nostalgic look to the bride. Create a very aristocratic look with pearl encrusted jewelry and a small gentle sparkle of Swarovski crystals, combined with a hair crown or a delicate hair comb. Vintage jewelry can also be a great fit for a romantic bride.
  • Short dresses give out an informal vibe that fits the non-traditional bride. Complement the dress and give it a playful look with colorful or geometric-shaped jewelry.
  • A tea-length dress is also informal yet light and sophisticated. Pair it with dainty gentle jewelry or pick a delicate vintage piece, like a choker with a cameo.
  • For a rustic or boho bride wearing an A-Line or a sheath dress, choose light and gentle wedding jewelry that seamlessly integrates with her dress. Combine gold and pearls with nature-inspired motives such as flowers, deer or leaves. Unless wearing a flower crown, hair combs and golden tiaras with small encrusted gems can be a great addition. Otherwise, choose a gold bracelet and a pair or small earrings.

How to Choose Wedding Jewelry According to the Dress Neckline

The neckline of a dress will heavily influence the shape, length and type of bridal jewelry you may suitably wear.

  • A deep plunging V-neck needs to be shown off. Match it with a statement bracelet. For the flat-chested bride, add a long flowy necklace with a pair of matching earrings.
  • For a jewel neckline, skip the necklace altogether and wear earrings and hair jewelry only.
  • Strapless gowns or off-the-shoulder necklines that highlight your wonderful shoulders and collarbone will go best with relatively short, round structured, necklaces and stud earrings. Or make a statement and go for strikingly gorgeous chandelier earrings and no necklace. You’ll look like the goddess that you are!
  • Portrait necklines cover more of the shoulders, thus a delicate pearl drop or diamond shape pendant or some pearl strands can be a great fit. Earrings will complete your look.
  • For those brides with a serious décolletage and a sweetheart neckline, go for a short necklace and bracelet and seriously show it off!
  • With bateau or scoop dress necklines wear dominant and elegant earrings and skip the necklace.
  • Halter dresses would benefit from some statement earrings and a stunning bracelet.
  • Back scoop neckline? With your open back, make a definite exit by wearing some jewelry on it.

Aya’s Tip #3: Fuller chested brides should not wear a long necklace – the hanging and calling attention to the area is a definite no-no.

Wedding Jewelry for your Face Shape

The selected ornament must complement both the shape of your face and the hairstyle you’ve chosen. Which is why we also recommend picking your bridal jewelry once you have an idea of your hairstyle. Nonetheless, visible wedding jewelry can help or hinder your look. Check out these tips to avoid costly mistakes.

  • Dangling designs are deemed perfect for a round face. To create an illusion of length, wear long ornaments.
  • For an oval face, pick chandeliers or earrings with circles, curves and large studs. Oval and teardrop styles are ideal for oval faces.
  • Similarly, round-shaped jewelry goes great with rectangular faces. Earrings that soften your bone structure and add some curves are preferable. Also, avoid wearing strong line and wide jewelry pieces.
  • In order to balance a heart-shaped face, earrings with elongated curves are just the right choice.

Aya’s Tip #4: Don’t go jewelry crazy just because you are the bride. If you usually wear a couple of pieces, make those shine. If you wear none, just pick one you wouldn’t mind rocking at the ceremony or at the dance floor!

Always remember, less is more. Just because it fits someone, doesn’t mean it will be best for you too. It doesn’t look good if your face or neck are swamped with jewelry.

Carefully select the kind of wedding jewelry that you would want to wear. Pick a color for your accessories that go well with your dress.

For those brides who are still on the fence, Aya recommends following three steps: Imagine, Find your style and Plan.

Imagine

Start by imagining your wedding day. Imagine what your event will look like. Imagine how you would look. Imagine the dress of your dreams and how you would feel walking down the aisle in it. Try to be as detailed as possible, as it will make it easier to make your dreams come true.

Find your Style

While imagining and visualizing your dream wedding, find your style. Are you a classic, romantic or a sexy bride? Are you a rustic, boho, or an eclectic modern bride? What is the style and vibe you want to pursue?

Pick a color for your accessories that go well with your dress. Most of all, your selection of wedding jewelry, earrings, bracelets and hair jewelry should make you feel comfortable. It’s your wedding day after all!

Remember that your wedding dress is one of the most important details on your big day. Jewelry and accessories are the icing on the cake. The perfect finish that should complete your look. It’s important to add them carefully.

Sparkling 4th of July Mani Ideas for Nails (Toes too!)

Love great manicure ideas for a Fourth of July wedding? Personally, we think nails are one of the best 4th of July makeup ideas when attending a wedding. Kind of like the work you put into them lasts there for longer, right? 😉

4th of July Makeup Ideas and Tutorials: Splatter Nail Art

Let’s begin with some splatter paint nails! You will need a white base, blue and red nail polish, scotch tape or protective wax and some straws.

DIY 4th of July nails by Pretty Gossip.

DIY 4th of July nails by Pretty Gossip.

1Paint your nails with the white nail polish

2Next, protect your fingers well – either with scotch tape as shown on the picture or with protective wax – there’s gonna be a LOT of splattering! The more surface you cover, the better off you will be.

3Suck some red nail polish through a straw and blow it all over your nails. Don’t suck too hard and make sure you cover the surface you will be working on.

4Repeat the process with the blue nail polish!

5Arm yourself with a Q-Tip and some nail polish remover and carefully clean up your fingers.

6Don’t they look amazing? You’ll be getting compliments left and right!

Feel free to do the same to your toes and give yourself a very patriotic pedi.

If you want something a bit more elaborate (and, oh so cute) here is another nail art independence day tutorial. It requires a bit more artistic ability but it’s definitely worth it. You will need the same nail polish than for the previous tutorial but switch the straws for thin brushes.

That special someone won’t be able to take their eyes – and nose – off this fabulous bouquet made with dried lavender.

Not everybody wants flowers at their wedding. Some brides simply do not like them, others care about the carbon footprint their wedding will leave behind – for these brides, we recommend reading this article on farm to table catering. Other brides may want a bridal bouquet that fits an alternative-styled wedding and others may just be allergic to flowers!

The Bridal Bouquet Tradition

Bridal bouquets are a tradition that goes back hundreds of years. Back in the day wedding bouquets were carried as a ways for the bride to ward off evil. They didn’t necessarily have flowers, more like herbs and plants for good luck and protection. Since most people have forgotten the meaning of plants for these purposes these day’s bouquets have lost their original meaning. Therefore, brides can get creative with what they will be carrying down the aisle on their wedding day. Below are a few ideas for non-traditional wedding bouquets without flowers.

Why not take advantage of the creativity of these gorgeous and unique wedding bouquet ideas? Make your ceremony even more memorable with these non floral bouquets!

Non-Floral Brooch Bouquets: Oh! So  Vintage!

Bright jewel pins add a sparkle to a bridal bouquet. They can be coordinated to match the wedding colors. Perhaps consider using antique or heirloom brooches from a family member and turn your wedding bouquet into a true vintage masterpiece.

Brooches and buttons by themselves or mixed with felt flowers add a vintage feeling to the bride’s bouquet. Also, try adding the buttons into centerpieces or party favors to keep continuity to the motif.

Wedding Bouquet Ideas for Summer for the Non-Traditional Bride

Ok, so flowers are the obvious choice for a wedding in the summer, but that doesn’t mean flowers are your only option. This is the perfect season to carry a paper fan or pinwheel paper flower. Some brides take advantage of the season to create beautiful, fragrant and unique bridal bouquets without flowers by added herbs like sage or rosemary or sprigs of lavender and wheat.

Folded colorful paper flowers are unique ways to show off the bride’s personality while keeping the cost of the wedding down. Most brides that go this route choose a paper that has deep personal meaning for them. Sheet music of your favorite song, pages from a favorite novel, or an old personal letter can add a special touch to your wedding day.
